A fairly large river turtle, these guys grow fast!

River Cooters inhabit mainly freshwater and spend part of their lives on land. Hatchlings length can be as small as 1.06” and adults can reach 17.” Their shells are relatively flat and elongated with light and dark brown markings. The average lifespan in captivity is 20 years and 40 years in the wild. They are predominately herbivores but will sometimes consume crayfish.
